Car Colors

enable images please

There are so many shades of red with cars. I didn't have a way to work in Patriot Red (Mitsubishi) or Colorado Red (Jeep), but maybe someday....

Explanation: In the game DOTA2, the teams are called Radiant and Dire. Also there's something called  Ultra Kill (four kills in a short time window).

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Dragon Knight
L: My Honda is Radiant Red.
DK: Not Dire Red?!
L: ... Tesla has ULTRA RED.

DOTA2 Zeus in Stereo

 enable images please

I feel the mythological Zeus would just throw a lightning bolt at you if he received any criticism, so this is real growth for him here. I believe he says this phrase in game when you direct him to a place on the map.

T: Zeus, hold the mic further away - you're overpowering the chorus.
Z: Sound advice!

DOTA2 Zeus the Technician

 enable images please

Another catchphrase from DOTA2, this time from Zeus. Enchantress, as a faun/dryad, clearly would question why someone would join an electricity company.
Back when I was in college, our pastor told us about how he wanted to officiate his friend's wedding but didn't know if he could so he called up his dad (also a pastor) and asked "Do I have THE POWER?" much to his dad's confusion. He explained THE POWER meaning the part at the end of the wedding ceremony when the pastor declares "by the power vested in me I pronounce you man and wife." And now his overly energetic inflection of THE POWER goes through my head sometimes when power is mention.

E: You accepted the job at the electricity company?
Z: A position of power!

DOTA2 Kunkka on Laundry

 enable images please

Happy Birthday to my SEEEEEEEESTER!
So many comics come from sitting next to my husband while he plays his games. I have no desire to play a battle royal with all the people trying to get me, but I like hearing (some of) the character's catchphrases and coming up with comics slightly out of character to use said phrases.

Explanation: Tide is a brand of laundry detergent. Kunkka is an admiral in the navy and has many phrases about the sea levels and conditions.

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Kunkka
SS: I put too much detergent in, and how the laundry room is filling with bubbles!
K: Rising Tide.

DOTA2 Necrophos in Winter

 enable images

In the game DOTA2, this character has many rather visceral phrases but when he says "raging contagion" I always think of toddlers toddling along with all their germs.

N: Raging contagion!
A: *sneeze*
O: *sniffle*

Be Anything But

So this is was created while my husband was playing DOTA2. In the first step of the game, you pick your character (called heroes) but you can ban heroes as well so people can't pick them. It's all a strategy move.

Text:
A: You can be anything you want to be!
B: They banned my preferred hero.
A: You can be anything you want to be as long as it's not Zeus/Storm Spirit/Dragon Knight!

DOTA2 Under Attack

 enable images please

I always think this line is funny because, you're in a fighting game and he's all outraged/surprised like what did you expect man? For people to not attack you? But to be fair in the game it's physical attacks not verbal, so he's right to be surprised/outraged in my comic here.

Explanation: Enchantress is half-deer and very protective of the forest I believe so she would have a problem with someone whose main attack is shooting fire out his mouth.

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Dragon Knight
Enchantress: Dragons are HORRIBLE for the forest - fire destroys everything good!
Dragon Knight: I am under attack!

DOTA2 Tiny Diet

enable images please

Happy October! 🍁
I originally was going to have a medical-type character give this advice to Tiny, but after so many tries at getting Tiny defined I went the easy route and used a Dragon Knight from an earlier comic rather than designing a Venomancer or Necrophos. A humorous part of this comic is that as Tiny levels up, he grows bigger, so to trim him down you'd need him to immature.

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Dragon Knight
DK: My friend, you should lose some weight.
Tiny: Back to the grindstone.

DOTA2 Feasting on Enough

 enable images please

Happy Birthday to my Grandpa!
The character Zeus has a phrase in DOTA2 which is what he's quoting here and it makes me think. Is enough really as good as a feast? I feel like if you make exactly enough food for people, then either nobody wants to eat the last pieces so people don't actually get enough, or all the food is eaten and you're left wondering if anyone was still hungry. Maybe on an individual level, if you eat enough then it doesn't matter if you were at a feast with extra or finished off all of what you had. Hmmm...

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Zeus
Enchantress: You barely brought enough food for everyone!
Zeus: Enough is as good as a feast.

DOTA2 In the Bag

 enable images please

Another DOTA2 comic! I have a few. At the beginning of the game, you can have your character exclaim that your team is going to win (it's in the bag) and each character has a phrase for that. But now I think of this when my cashier asks where he should put the receipt.

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Dragon Knight
Storm Spirit: Where is the receipt for our questing snacks?
Dragon Knight: This, my friends, is in the bag.

DOTA2 Dragon Waiting

 enable images

My husband plays DOTA2 and I keep thinking up comics based on the lines I hear the characters say. In the game, the character is not waiting for his library hold to come in but I now think of this when I hear the line. The librarian is Libby, the app that many libraries use for digital access to their stacks. I recommend checking if your local library has this app - it's free and you can get all sorts of digital and audio books!

Text:
Title: DOTA2: A Day in the Life - Dragon Knight
Libby: You are fourth in line.
Dragon Knight: The dragon waits.

DOTA2 Who Calls the DK

enable images please

My husband plays DOTA2 and I usually crochet or blog (or scroll on my phone) next to him so I hear all the chatter. Dragon Knight is a good starter character so I've heard all his catchphrases many times. One such phrase is "Who calls the Dragon Knight?" and every time I think "this guy really needs better caller id." Will I do more of these "Day in the Life" comics for different characters? There's a strong possibility that I will but I don't have any more planned at the moment.

Text:
Title: DOTA: A Day in the Life - Dragon Knight
DK: Monkey King? Send to voicemail. A text from Marci? How nice. An unknown number?!? WHO CALLS THE DRAGON KNIGHT!?!
