Third Commandment

My pastor at FBC is currently going through a series on the Ten Commandments, and I remembered these hand motions that my pastor at TBC back in CT taught me as a kid.
I looked on Pinterest for hand drawings because I usually just do stick figures but stick figure hands kinda look like skeletons and I wasn't wanting to go for that. Too Tim-Burton-like.

The third commandment is: "You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lordwill not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name." - Exodus 20:7

The hand motion is: three fingers up in a 'W' shape, for Watch your Words.

Second Commandment

My pastor at FBC is currently going through a series on the Ten Commandments, and I remembered these hand motions that my pastor at TBC back in CT taught me as a kid.

The second commandment is: "You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." - Exodus 20:4-6

The hand motion is: two fingers to the side, opening and closing like scissors. I don't think people normally used scissors to make idols, it seems they were usually made out of stone or metal or wood, but the meaning is still there. Don't make stuff to worship (more specifically, don't worship things - only worship God).

First Commandment

When I was a kid, I had a home school group that met at our church, TBC, and we called ourselves TBA, and we had a chapel service and our pastor headed it up. This one time, he did a huge series on the Ten Commandments and we had hand motions to go along with them. We also memorized the first part of Exodus 20, since that's where the commandments are.

The first commandment is: "You shall have no other gods before me." -Exodus 20:3.

The hand motion is: index finger pointing up.

Kangaroo Court

Don't annoy a kangaroo, not only might they kick you but also they might take you to their court and you won't get a fair trial because that's just how it goes in kangaroo court.
Side note - the bird pictured is an emu and they are my favorite bird. They are so weird. In the Virginia Zoo, they have an Australian Walkabout and you can walk in the enclosure where they have wallabies and kangaroos and sometimes emus too. It's amazing to get close to such a massive bird but sadly the day we went it was super hot and they were all in the shade as the edges of the enclosure and we as humans had to stay on the path so there was distance between us but it was still really cool.

Text:
Kangaroo: I'm gonna take you to court!
Emu: OH NOOOO!!!

Turn That Frown Upside Down

I would like someone to spring into a handstand when told to turn their frown upside down, and then document the reaction. Maybe if you really enjoy gymnastics, then doing this would help get your spirits up. I mean, exercise is suppose to help lift your spirits so maybe this approach could work. Let me know if you try it out.

Text:
A: I'm sad.
B: Turn that frown upside down!
A: *hand-standing* I'm still sad.

Watch Your Step

It's important information - what if you watch the wrong step? You will probably fall. It will hurt and be regrettable. Be sure to list off which step should be watched by which person.

Sign: Watch your step.
L: Which step is mine?

The Works of Play-Doh

I liked making dioramas when I was in elementary school, specifically ones with my Playmobil people. I remember doing one about Gladys Aylward. We also had a cool Play-Doh tool that we could feed the doh into and it would make things but I don't remember much more than that and also it was colorful.
(Comic Hint: it's supposed to be the works of Plato)

Text:
T: What is your Ancient History diorama?
C: The Works of Play-Doh.

Internal Duress

So a few weeks ago (rather recently when this was scheduled but I'm being good about queuing up comics so you don't miss a day) I went out to eat at a place I have been to many times before but for the first time, I had a salad instead of a soup for a starter because it was a super hot day and there was no AC at church or in the car. Both AC's have now been fixed but the point of this story is I had rather horrible food poisoning and I'm pretty sure it was the salad because I had a bento box and Mark sampled most of what I had since it was a little bit of everything and he was fine and the only thing he didn't have was the salad and these little dumplings and it seems the salad was more likely the culprit. So in the future I will still go back to that place but I won't be having the salad.
Also if I had made this comic after the event, I would have switched the people since I was the one with the tummy panic attack.

Text:
L: Could you please stop using the term "internal duress"? It's gross.
M: ... so then my tummy had a panic attack.

I Knew You Were Treble

I knew you were treble when you walked in.... Said the lion on the cold hard ground. Or something like that. This was probably inspired while singing hymns at church, since we sing from a hymnal which has the notes all over it. The treble is at the top, and the bass is at the bottom. The note stems can go either way on either clef I believe.

Text:
N: You look like treble.

Searching for Motivation

Sometimes the end of the work day feels like this. Specifically when you're working on a task and you get stuck and need inspiration but to get inspiration you need both to focus and to be motivated and it's difficult. But sometimes you get a text from your spouse who says you can do it so you do.

Text:
M: What are you trying to find?
L: My focus and motivation.

The Sad Side of Safety

Safety third! Because if safety is first, you won't ever do anything.
I can't think of a reason to run with open scissors, you really should at least close them before sprinting away. But really you shouldn't run at all. Or if you need to hurry, use a pocket knife sort of thing so you can safely fold away the sharp edges.

Text:
Scissors: No one will be my running buddy.
Fire: No one will play with me.

Top of the Beanstalk Gossip

But you didn't hear it from me...
I don't recall what caused this comic but depending on the depiction of this classic story, not much was happening at the top of the bean stalk until Jack came along and made things exciting, as manslaughter (giantslaughter?) and grand theft will do.
The classic version of this story that I remember from my childhood was a black-and-white VHS Abbott and Costello version, which came in a box set of classic stories acted out by either A&C or Shirley Temple.

Text:
Title: Top of the Beanstalk Gossip
G1: I hear her eggs are actually pyrite.
G2: Whaaaat!

All About the Journey

This is based on a trip to CT that we took and the GPS helpfully told us about alternative routes. I get that they label the worse routes so you're not wondering if there is a better route, but it does seem ridiculous when it's so much slower. Oops, I forgot to add side mirrors. I guess we are just forgetting those things that are behind. And yes, that's my attempt at drawing a blue Civic.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Speaking of journeys, today is my 10 year anniversary with my amazing Mark! I like him a lot.

Text:
M: We could take this next exit, which is twenty minutes slower.
L: Sometimes you just don't want to get there.
