Breaching a Contract

Sometimes I can't decide which way lands better so I draw both ways and like both. So here are both! Also, I like all of my comics but some are definite favorites and this one is a favorite. I came up with it while playing card games with my family and I think this turn of phrase should enter the common vernacular.

Text:
A: So what do you think?
B: Like a whale, you're breaching this contract.

A: Why did Legal send me a whale picture?
B: Ah, you must be breaching a contract.

Thank and Excuse

 enable images please

I had my second ever successful jury summons recently and I wrote about it on my other blog, Not So Comical - http://notsocomical.comicaltruestory.com/2024/02/jury-duty.html

I support the trial by a jury of your peers system, but I don't want to go through the process any more than I have to. I just find it interesting that I was called once right when I turned 18 but I was away at college so I got excused, then nothing for over a decade, then basically back-to-back summons in the sense that I was summoned three years after getting my first successful summons, so right after I got put back in the pool. I know it's not really back-to-back - my sister had that when somehow she was summoned three times in one calendar year - but it feels like it. Also I wonder if now I'm gonna get summoned every three years - somehow they just didn't notice me when I moved to my current state about 15 years ago? But my husband has lived here all his life and has never been successfully summoned (he has been called up twice but was excused or not needed). So it's odd how some people are summoned more frequently than others.

Explanation: When selecting a jury, either side of the court case can excuse a potential juror with the phrase (at least this is the phrase they used in my recent summons) "please thank and excuse juror #" and I just think that's a great way to dismiss someone's opinion.

B: Please thank and excuse your opinion.

Denying Culpability

 enable images please

I forget what exactly inspired this comic, but it totally happened (I provided the voice for little Oriole since he's not at the talking stage yet). And now I am imagining my toddler trying to repeat "deny all culpability" - Robin's in the highly repetitive phase so anything she hears could be parroted by her. Apparently too many people have told her "good girl" when she does something, so now she tells us "good girl" when we do something for her (i.e. I help her get into a chair - "good girl!", her dad holds a door open for her - "good girl!").

Explanation: Little kids using big words is hilarious.

Text:
M: Why did you do that?!
O: I deny all culpability.
M: If you know that word, you can't deny it.

Illegal Minute

 enable images!

I forget which station plays this ad, but I hear it wrong every time and think of this instead. How much can be done in one illegal minute? I think of it as 60 seconds to break a law, rather than a minute that exceeds 60 seconds (breaking the laws of time, but time is a construct so everything is arbitrary, so hmmm).

Turned into a Cow

enable images!

Guys, I think this is the most hilarious movie and you should watch it AND also if you look up the behind the scenes of how it was made, it's just so ridiculous and they will never make another movie like it. So many quotable lines, but this one is my favorite. At my old work, I drew a cow in a Viking helmet on my desk's whiteboard and he just had the text "Ummm..."

Explanation: In the movie "The Emperor's New Groove", there is a scene where a group of guards get turned into various animals. One asks their leader "Um, I've been turned into a cow. Can I go home?" and she says "You're excused. Anyone else?" and they all look at each other and there are no more cows (just an ostrich, gorilla, octopus, etc.) so they say "Nope, we're all good!" and they continue on. It's quite humorous. This poster is satirizing the classic lawyer commercials about "If you or a loved one have been XYZ, you may be eliglible for compensation." Hmm, is it "have" or "has"? I feel it could go either way.
