Two Heads

Happy almost birthday to my little one! Wow, it's been a year. 

This comic came to me when a speaker mentioned the phrase about "looking at me like I had two heads." I'm trying to find the phrase but I'll I'm seeing is the phrase about "two heads are better than one" which is kind of the opposite meaning to the phrase for which I am looking. 

To explain, in Greek mythology there is a three-headed dog (named Cerberus). This comic is a play on the phrase "looked at me like I had two heads" which means "looked at me like I was weird" since most people only have one head. The joke is that this dog has three heads, so while "two heads" is still wrong, it's too few rather than too many.

Welcome Hybrid Students

 

In Maryland, public schools opened in March in hybrid mode. I saw a school sign that was welcoming hybrid students, and this is what came into my mind. Wings, tails, antlers, satyr, thought about adding a mermaid after the fact but with this already drawn up, decided to just leave it with the selection I had. Thought about mixing in some non-hybrid children, but they aren't getting the welcome here so that wasn't needed. Could have tried to make a minotaur, but that would have been difficult.

The meaning of 'hybrid students' is that the kids have some school days in the school building and other school days are learn from home. Distance learning? Whatever the term is.

Medusa

Continuing on the Greek theme, but mixing in a little Casablanca. Medusa had her hair turned into snakes and could turn people to stone by looking at them (or rather them looking at her). That guy in Casablanca said "here's looking at you, kid" for whatever reason (I've watched the movie but the phrase still doesn't make sense to me).
Happy Saint Patrick's Day! This was my only recently drawn comic with green in it. Also, it's my half birthday! So I'll try to enjoy half of today.

Percy Jackson Musical

  So a few weeks ago, we went to see a musical "The Lightning Thief", about the first book in the Percy Jackson series, which is about Greek mythology set in current times. The musical was very creative, had only 7 actors playing all the roles with minimal props and sets, and did a good summary of the entire book in two hours.

 The main actors, Percy and Annabeth, played only their roles since they were in nearly every scene. And they did a great job! The actor for Grover also played Mr. D, which worked because usually one of them was in a scene. The other four members of the cast played everyone else, and had a creative enough wardrobe to differentiate between the characters.

 The set pieces were very minimal but creative - you had to use your imagination for some (there was a piece of rolling scaffolding that was everything from an elevator to a bus to really anything that moved) but the actors made it believable. 

 It definitely helped to have read the books to fully understand what all was happening, and I saw a lot of fans in the audience (orange t-shirts, PJ books, etc). It was a one weekend only show in the Kennedy Center, but it was in a side theater not the main huge one. I highly enjoyed my afternoon!
