Shoes On

 

It's always interesting to hear how kids say things, but sometimes you have to try and flip their words around into the correct order because what they're saying is valid but also not what they want. And then they fire back a phrase you keep using on them, so that's a little heartening to know they are internalizing, in this case, trying before just giving up. 

Explanation: My kid is meaning to say "put my shoes on me" but by saying "put my shoes on" he's requesting me to wear his shoes and that will not work.

Siblings and Shoes

 

This is not quite a true story but it was inspired by my husband saying I should wear shoes I didn't mind getting dirty for a trip to maybe a festival or market of some sort. If you have siblings, let me know how it goes if you try this one.

Happy Birthday to my Mom-in-Law!

So I like to give my toddler options (not show above for brevity but it would have been like "rain boots or black shoes") so I don't just pick one arbitrarily and she has a meltdown because it's the wrong one but if I give her unlimited options she will either (1) pick an impractical one or (2) dither over options for far too long. But sometimes she doesn't like the options I give however that can be fine provided the one she wants is practical. Thankfully in the case above she was just being silly and knew she was being silly so I was able to redirect to a more practical choice.

German Shoes

 

Happy almost Birthday to my husband! You do so much for us <3

So in German, "spargel" means asparagus and they have some big festivals about it. Apparently it's a big deal. Who am I to judge - I grew up in a town that had a yearly festival (with a parade!) to honor a certain fish swimming through the river. 

Explanation: this is a confusion between "sparkly" and "spargel-y". This comic was spawned after listening to a song I really like off Owl City's latest album "Coco Moon" titled "My Muse" - the singer mentions "the sparkle in your eye" but it sounds like "spargel in your eye."

Baby Heelys

 

You may stand corrected, but those toddlers won't (be able to stand if they have wheels in their shoes). So Heelys are a type of shoe (sneaker) that have like a roller-skate wheel hidden in the heel and you can pop it out and scoot along like a cool kid. The official Heelys site has a size chart which says the smallest they go is 12Y which per a little research is a preschooler size (my toddler is a 7 so that means the smallest Heelys is nearly twice the length of her current shoes). I think it is wise of them to not make the shoes in smaller sizes. 

Also this comic is channeling a little from a character in an excellent show who had great ways to say when something was a bad idea ("that idea just made a bad idea feel a whole lot better about itself")("that idea just gave a bad idea the will to live").

Fix My Sole

As previously mentioned, these sole-related comics were inspired by a sermon that was not at all about shoes but might have had some mention of something soul-related. It's difficult to draw a shoe for a stick figure. I know I saw a comic about a peach cobbler (a peach that fixed shoes) and that might have sparked the cobbler portion of this. But slightly related to that, dessert cobbler is quite tasty.

Feel It In Your Sole

I don't remember which sermon inspired this one but I believe it was a throwaway comment about cobbling something together or something soul-related. My mind tends to go on tangents which is why it's helpful that our pastor gives out sermon outlines to help me (and probably other people too) focus. I'm now thinking it was something more soul-related. But of course I went on a tangent. Not a cosine. Why don't we go on more cosines.

M: How do you know that your shoes are wearing out?
B: I can feel it in my sole.
