Another Tall Order

 

Last month I made some short-order / tall-order comics and here's another for that segment.

Explanation: A tall order is a complicated or difficult thing. A giraffe is tall. Giving the giraffe toy to my son is not difficult, but it is pun-worthy (as most things are).

Old MacDonald Part 2

 

Another twist on the classic song. 

Explanation: Usually, Old MacDonald is sung with farm animals on the farm, not safari animals. To each their own?

Text:
R: And on his farm he had an osswig.
L: ... ostrich?
R: And zebras. Five zebras.
L: What kind of exotic farm is he running?
R: And a LION!

GMO animals

 

So many critters fit in this comic. Now I'm thinking of these critters in the style of Avatar the Last Airbender, where they'd be half-n-half animals like a turtle-duck (a turtle shell with a duck head and four duck feet). This scene depicted is at a zoo, so that's a zookeeper talking to the confused lady.

Alligator Tears

Why does everyone call fake tears "crocodile tears"? Also, I always have to look up the difference between a crocodile and an alligator. They are both nopes in my book and I hope to never see either in the wild.

Deer and Antelope Playing

I still think they are playing together, that's just how things are out west. Everything is peaceful and the plains are wide open and there's tall grain swaying in the breeze. We did see quite a few deer and a few little antelopes, but they were chilling in separate groups. There were also many much buffalo. But I can misremember and say they were all playing together. And the prairie dogs were in on it, too. Multi-species game play going on.

Nebraska Page 3

 The first panel is a reference to the phrase "no rest for the wicked." And now I know, that phrase is referring to eternal punishment of evildoers. Panel 2 is referencing a psychological manipulation term but also was the actual name of a motel we passed somewhere out in the Midwest. Here it is! Panel 3 is another actual place we saw (B&H Storage) whereas the joke is B&E (which means Breaking and Entering) and that would not be a great storage plan. Panel 4 is referencing that famous song, and Panel 7 is referencing Rushmore. And yes, Panel 8 has more butte humor (and is a reference to the famous line from Finding Nemo!).

 M: There are horses in blankets over there.
 N: I prefer pigs in blankets.

 L: That mountain needs a face carved on it.

Ambiguous Cartoon Critter

 

Here's a picture of the cartoon creature in question - the model is clearly concerned over what it is. 

After polling many people, we had suggestions of mouse, cow, sheep, bear, dinosaur, puppy, lamb, and koala. I was thinking it's a mouse but upon seeing all the suggestions, leaning towards a polar bear. The critter is repeated on the feet of the sleeper but looks roughly the same there so no help from multiple angles. But it's still a cute outfit, even if we don't know what's on it.

Animal Costumes

 

I drew this after Halloween last year AND stored it in the proper folder AND remembered to check said folder before the holiday passed by again! I feel like I need a sticker or something. Maybe a sticker to remind me to check my holiday folders when a holiday is approaching. The deer's costume would be the spots since adults don't have those but maybe judging from the size it's a little fawn so therefore he did nothing for his costume, and I tried drawing the classic Zorro hat on the fox but it just didn't look right so I left it off. Also totally forgot about the rapier but I'm not sure how I would have worked that in anyway.

FYI "zorro" is Spanish for "fox". I feel like everyone should know Bambi and Zorro but if you don't, please click the links and learn about them.

Linda

My work has a lion mascot and they just bought a company with a panda mascot so if you put those words together then you get Linda which is my mom's name :) She could be the mascot of our joint company! But actually I've seen an image which has both a lion and a panda but they aren't merged like a liger which is just boring. I know you can't (or at least shouldn't) cross a feline and an ursine (haha fancy word for bear) but now I want to draw one. I feel like it could be in Avatar: The Last Airbender since they have things like a platypus-bear (lays eggs when scared) and lizard-parrot and other odd hybrids.
But if you blended the names like is done with the liger (lion+tiger) then technically you'd get landa but that's not fair to both words - I split them more evenly. Wait no, the i is the second letter in both lion and tiger so it could be taken from lion rather than tiger and then it's fair. Glad we got that sorted out.

Safari Puns: Panther

Is the panther just a filled in version of the cheetah? I'll never tell. I usually think of the Steve Martin movie rather than the cartoon when I think of pink panthers. Now I want to know the origin - why would someone think up a comic about a pink panther? Oh, it's named after the diamond with a flaw in the center that is said to resemble a panther. Allegedly.

Safari Puns: Lion

Comic two of the safari pun series! I don't think this zebra has many friends. Puns sometimes have that side-effect. I have crocheted both of these animals and given them to a niece and nephew. The zebra was not as difficult as I thought it would be - just had to keep switching colors as I went along and it made counting rows much easier since there was a visual.

I know there are many puns about cheetahs being cheaters, but this might be my first one. Also I have a three comic series on safari puns. I don't have much to say about this, I think the comic really speaks for itself.
