No Snuggles Allowed

The mind of a child makes all sorts of connections that take me a minute to follow. Now that I think about it, my kids might think all sailors are pirates. We were watching Turning Pointe Ballet's Little Mermaid on YouTube, and my kids were calling Prince Eric's ship's captain the Pirate Captain. No amount of saying they are all sailors and that's just the captain could get them to realize that they were not pirates.

Explanation: my kid hears "dictatorship" and thinks it's a type of boat (ship), and apparently only pirates are on boats.

O: ... We don't have a ship. We are not pirates.

Surrender to Sleep

enable images!

So apparently "giving no quarter" is forbidden under international humanitarian law, but I feel like toddlers disregard international (or just basic) humanitarian law. Giving no quarter originally meant that you were not going to house (quarter) any prisoners i.e. means you're going to kill all of your opponents. But there's a modern American take on it which just means you're going to treat someone unkindly and I feel that's the more appropriate meaning for this comic.

We often request our little one to surrender to sleep as she valiantly fights it off. Little one, you will be in SUCH a better mood if you take a little nap. I feel like that's true for adults as well - sleep helps improve your mood when you're getting cranky, no matter your age.

Stuff on Sail

I thought this one up a while ago and it took a while to finally draw it out. I like the boat in the distance to show where the sail is from. What's on the sail? Possibly pirated stuff. You just never know what you could find when a pirate sets up a beach shop (I would say having a yard sale but it's not a yard and it's not on sale). I wonder if he'll get any customers. Who is even on the beach nowadays? At current writing, most things are closed but hopefully more things will open up and people will defeat the virus once and for all!

I Treasure You

Well, you shouldn't do that. Don't lock anything living inside a trunk, even if it's a treasure chest. That's not the way to treasure someone. Actually treating a person as treasure is usually not a good plan; you should treat them like people, not objects.

Lady: Why did you lock me in that chest?!?
Pirate: I treasure you.
