Candle Sharing

 enable images

This came to me in a dream. I might have woken up chuckling then wrote down the idea hoping it would be funny when fully awake (I think it is). I personally don't like candles that smell like food because then I want the food and it's not there. I'm fine with fruit scents, but I feel like that's different because you're sort of inoculated against that due to many lotions and soaps having fruity smells so there's not that immediate connection of "cinnamon roll smell means there's a cinnamon roll to eat" and instead is like "oh, citrus, nice."

A: That smells amazing - can I have a taste?
B: No.
A: Aw, why not???
B: It's a candle.

Candle Holding

I don't know the origin of this phrase but I can look it up. All I can find actually is the definition, but not the origin? I know it's used in a Relient K song - "Can't hold a candle to her, cause all the moths get in the way." Wait I FOUND IT. It is referencing the lowest apprentice would be the one who holds the candle for the master since that's all they're good for, so if you can't even hold a candle then you're truly worthless? So holding a candle to tell the worth of something is not really a valid test. But I did not know this before looking it up, so it's an understandable mistake I think.

A: How good in that product?
B: I held a candle to it and nothing happened so... ?

Lumiere

Happy Birthday to my grandma! I have many happy memories of staying the weekend at her house, watching movies and doing crafts and attending Awana at her church (my church didn't have that program) and coloring pictures through choir practice while she played the piano. I'm very grateful for the early exposure to arts and music that I got through my family! Having hobbies is great, especially when there are limits on where you can go and what you can do - I have yarn to crochet and pictures to paint and a violin to play (I should do that last one, I haven't in a while - the weather is nice so I can play with windows open and share with the neighbors).

In the song that the castle inhabitants sing to Belle, Lumiere sings "Be our guest, be our guest, put our service to the test", and this comic is imagining someone actually doing that.
