Millipede Legs

 

So I learned this fact when we went to a special class at our library, Zoo To You: Invertebrates. I should have known it would be all bugs, and large ones at that since they wanted you to be able to see them. So we saw an African Millipede which is quite large and apparently has an ever increasing number of legs. Lovely. Also there were hissing cockroaches and a massive hairy spider which I didn't not commit to memory. Zoo To You shows up at the library occasionally and I was remembering the Vertebrates class which had a parrot, a turtle, and a snake or two. There was also a tenrec at one of the classes. Maybe there was a Reptile class then a Vertebrate class. That could be. ANYWAYS only go to an Invertebrate event if you are good with large bugs.

Check your sources, people. This is a true story and indeed, his guess was incorrect. My library gives out hand or book stamps at the end of most story times (there's a booklet to track how many classes you've been to but my kids prefer to get their hand stamped). I don't remember why I drew this as a sticker rather than a hand stamp - maybe it was clearer this way.

Summer Library Challenge

 

I did not read all of these but I did read one of them and I made a separate comic about it, which will be uploaded once I figure out how many comics I'll make in the summer reading booklet.
Explanation: All of the books mentioned were made into movies starring Matt Damon. My library does a summer reading challenge which is a booklet with about a dozen categories of books and five or so books in each category, and the goal is to read at least three books in different categories (don't have to be the ones listed, those are just samples) then you get a prize like a reusable bag or cup or notebook with the library logo on it. It's a nice way to expand your reading list and find some books that you might have overlooked otherwise.

Returning an Ebook

 

Note: IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL MONTH OF THE YEAR!!!

My local library had a summer reading program and it was nice. My kiddos both entered it, and their tasks were like "read a book about numbers" or "read a book outside" or "attend a library story time" and they had to rack up 10 tasks and it was rather easy to do for them. As an adult, I got a booklet and I needed to read three books but they had a bunch of categories listed and suggested books for each category and it got me to read some books that I would not have otherwise. 

Disclaimer: You should return your ebooks the same way you rented them - through the app. Don't drop your phone in the book drop - it is a book drop, not a phone drop.

Library Testing

 

When in doubt, go to the library? Our local library has a lot of helpful departments, like the DIY Education Center where you can borrow all sorts of tools for building, baking, crafting, and more! Need a ladder and a putty knife? Borrow them! Want to try crochet but don't want to buy hooks in case it doesn't work out for you? Borrow the hooks and also a How-To book! Want to make a cake that needs a specific pan that you will probably never use again? Borrow the pan! It's amazing. However, I'm certain you cannot borrow a medical test. The library might be a distribution source for the tests so you could check if they are giving them out, but yeah no borrowing.

Libertarian vs Librarian

 

March 4th is known as "Do Something Day" since it sounds like "march forth" but in my childhood home it is known as HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD because, well, that's not hard to figure out. 
Another one about libertarians! I have nothing against the political party - their name just lends itself to puns of miscommunication. Maybe I should try to think up some about other political parties. I know the Dewey Decimal System isn't obsolete but it's been sooooo long since I've set foot in a library with the lockdowns and the move to audio books which can be downloaded through the app. And also streaming - don't need to borrow TV series anymore except not all are available in my streams of choice so maybe once things open up again I could check out what they have in stock. I'm pretty sure I learned the DDS back in elementary school, and I can find my way around in a library but that's mainly due to the signs with words rather than looking at the number codes.
