Daily Grind

 enable images please

Also, my child was confused because we only drink tea in our household so the concept of a coffee grinder is foreign - it is a thing that exists only at grandma's house. Ah, but after a quick search it shows that the daily grind is referring to a grain grinder, not the coffee kind. And also it's referring to how tedious things grind and wear you down. But also more households have a coffee grinder than a grain grinder, so maybe the meaning of "grind" is changing too.

Explanation: The daily grind is what we call the workday. A meatball sandwich is called a grinder in Connecticut. I, and therefore my children, currently live in Maryland, and my kids don't know all the CT things (despite my efforts).

M: Ok, time to start the daily grind.
L: Like a meatball sandwich.

Protein vs Antitein

 enable images please

Peanut and steak vs broccoli and carrot, who will win??? Well, it's a protest so there's no winners? Maybe they'll have a nice discussion and come to realize that diets should be balanced.

Yes, this is a continuation of the comic from Sunday. Also yes, I drew these like VeggieTales without arms because arms are hard. But also no faces because I don't like anthropomorphizing food.

Explanation: Some foods (like peanuts and steak) have protein in them. Others (like vegetables) don't have protein. The word "protein" starts with "pro", so therefore I invented an "anti" to go against it.

DISCLAIMER: This comic was written before the new food pyramid and all that happened. I'm not weighing in on that - I'm just making a pro- vs anti-tein joke.

Survey Says

 enable images please

These are the questions to which we need answers.

Explanation: Antediluvian means before the Flood (i.e. Enoch is such an antediluvian name). Anti and Pro are usually opposites. Ante and Anti are easy to confuse. I have decided that if you like meat then you are pro-tein (haha, it's protein) and if you're anti-tein you just like fruits and vegetables (like a toddler avoiding beans and meat).

S: Are you antediluvian or prodiluvian?
C: What?
S: Are you pro-tein or anti-tein?
C: ?

Tasty Dinner Meat

 enable images please

Well a compliment is a compliment. I did tell her several times before this that we were eating fish and that it was salmon but she decided it was chicken and that was that.

Text:
R: Mom, dinner was so good - the chicken was yummy!
L: I'm glad you liked it - it was salmon.

Carbonated Protein

enable images!

Happy Birthday to my mom! Hope your day does not involve carbonated protein.
Tuna Soda - the drink of the apocalypse when you have to use what you have to survive, and what you have is a SodaStream and a stockpile of tuna. That's kind of a long slogan, might need to condense it somehow. I'm not sure how much protein (or any nutrients) is in the juices from a can of tuna, so the health of this drink is dubious, much like the taste. Now I'm thinking of dubious food from Breath of the Wild.
Also, did you know that I have mouseovers on my comics? Sometimes they're funny, like the one today! To activate the mouseover, you put your mouse over the image.

L: Why are there drained cans of tuna next to the SodaStream?!?
L3: Want a glass of carbonated protein?

Meat Loaf

Enable images! You are missing out on so much comics.

So this is probably why in the previous comic I thought meatloaf and beefcake were synonymous. Turns out I confused myself. Meatloaf is something I believe I've only had in a college mess hall - and that was just because I was curious as to what I was missing. I in fact was not missing anything. I'm sure there are ways to make it tasty but the mass produced variety was not enticing. My family ate golabki instead and it is much better than meatloaf :) I never remember how to spell it since we pronounce it like 'golumpkie.' So tasty, just make the meat dumplings and wrap them in cabbage and stew them in tomato for a few hours.

A: Wow, what a meatloaf 💓
B: I think you mean beefcake?

Olive Loaf

enable images!

Happy early Birthday to my Mom! I'm pretty sure I had olive loaf (the lunch meat kind) when I was a kid which would mean she bought it for us and I don't have negative memories of eating it but now looking at pictures of olive loaf I'm getting kinda grossed out. Who would have thought to inject cold cut lunch meat with olives? Also I'm looking at the olive loaf bread, which is just perfectly fine bread with huge olive warts coming out of it, and I'm wondering why that was done as well. Maybe it tastes good. Hopefully. Not sure if they still make olive loaf meats at the deli - maybe I'll look next time I'm at the store. I usually just get ham and some sort of salami, nothing too adventurous like the spicy pineapple ham they were selling last time I was there - I'm not a fan of spicy or pineapple so that was an easy nope. Is a beefcake a type of food? NOPE I was thinking it was a term that could be used for meatloaf but it is in fact just a term for muscular guys. Not sure how it originated but don't really want to research that.

F: Some guys are beefcakes, others are more...
G: Olive loaf?
