Protein vs Antitein

 enable images please

Peanut and steak vs broccoli and carrot, who will win??? Well, it's a protest so there's no winners? Maybe they'll have a nice discussion and come to realize that diets should be balanced.

Yes, this is a continuation of the comic from Sunday. Also yes, I drew these like VeggieTales without arms because arms are hard. But also no faces because I don't like anthropomorphizing food.

Explanation: Some foods (like peanuts and steak) have protein in them. Others (like vegetables) don't have protein. The word "protein" starts with "pro", so therefore I invented an "anti" to go against it.

DISCLAIMER: This comic was written before the new food pyramid and all that happened. I'm not weighing in on that - I'm just making a pro- vs anti-tein joke.

Vegetable Musicians

enable images please

I have not thought up any songs this group would sing, but I'm sure there's plenty of puns to choose from. I don't feel like looking up the difference between chives, scallions, and spring onions but I feel like they're used interchangeably.

Explanation: Chives and scallions are similar vegetables. A rapscallion is a mischievous person. I didn't realize no spelling change was needed for the band name pun. Also, with a letter swap, a "mischiveous" vegetable is a spring onion up to no good.

Text:
B: You chives are making horrible music!
RS: We're the RapScallions.

Veggie Tales Father Abraham

enable images please

Happy Father's Day! Especially to my Dad, who is the best dad. And to my husband, who is the best dad to our kiddos!

For those who don't know, VeggieTales is a cartoon featuring fruits and veggies (Larry the Cucumber, Pa Grape, etc.) and they don't have arms or legs - they just hop around and if they need to hold something it just floats. Also for those who don't know, the song "Father Abraham" is a wiggle-releaser sung in children's ministries and involves moving your arms and legs. And thirdly, I have a Sunday School playlist for my kids on Spotify and there is a version of "Father Abraham" sung by the Veggie Tales characters and it confuses me.

Text:
L: That makes about as much sense as the VeggieTales singing "Father Abraham."
A: *confused squint*

Big Farmer

enable images please

This post is neither in favor of or against the Jolly Green Giant and/or Big Pharma. It's just having fun with accents turning words into other words which facilitates a joke.

Explanation: Bostonian accents (like most New England ones) drops the 'r's in words usually, so "farmer" turns into "fa'ma'" which sounds like "pharma" which is short for pharmacy. And the Jolly Green Giant was the biggest farmer I could recall.

Text:
A: If you're going to rant about Big Pharma, please say it with a Boston accent so I can picture the Jolly Green Giant as the subject of your ire.

Stamp Your Beet

please enable images

There's a photo I've seen circulated with the text "If you're happy and you know it" and the image is a spiral ham in a C-clamp (i.e. "clamp your hams"). I then thought of this successor, "stamp your beet" (i.e. "stomp your feet"). I did not realize there are many variations of this song until I compiled a playlist of kid songs for my toddler. Many people sing the same songs but often there are some changes. "A stamp costs way more than 32¢!" you say. Well, congrats on knowing that there is a money amount connected to stamps. Also, they use to be cheaper, as that's how inflation and such things work. I didn't make it a forever stamp because drawing one would be more complicated than what I did.

Explanation: The song "If You're Happy and You Know It" has several verses of what to do to show your happiness, including clapping your hands and stomping your feet. "Stomp your feet" sounds similar to "stamp your beet" much like how "clap your hands" sounds like "clamp your hams."

Tempural Consequences

 enable images please

So a few weeks ago, my pastor mentioned "temporal consequences" when teaching about the life of David and the king's sins. I thought "temporal" sounded like "tempura" and here we are.

Explanation: Stealing is bad. A temporal consequence of stealing could be jail time and a criminal record. A tempural consequence would be getting the item coated in a thin batter then deep fried.

Text:
D: You're battering and frying the vegetables that I stole?!?
N: Tempural consequences!

Leeky Soup

enable images!

So first off - leeks are tasty. They look like giant chives (green onions) and are perfect for adding to soups. But secondly, they are quite large and chopping the white and light green portions of one leek gives you way more than one cup of goods. I had too many ingredients to add to my pressure cooker, so we had to split it between that and a Dutch oven. It all worked out in the end, only a little panic in the middle, and now I know to measure as I chop and save off the excess instead of just mixing it all in (but then I had plenty of leftovers and that's always a good plan). Also I did this when my parents and brothers were visiting so my mom is guest starring in this comic. Hi Mom!

Text:
L2: Well, it wanted two cups of chopped leeks but I chopped up two whole leeks.
L1: It's gonna be a leeky soup!
