Special Mayo

 enable images please!

I didn't know that my kid knew our pastor's name, since she usually refers to him as "Nathanael's dad" which is fair since she knows her friends more than their parents. Honestly, I never considered that the phrases "Pastor Cho" and "Trader Joe" have a similar cadence. (Her grandma has alpha-gal and the only mayo she knows is truly vegan is the TJ one.) The super confusing thing is that we had just had a church fellowship where the Chos brought a salad which contained mayo so I did have to think... but I realized what was going on before calling the Chos and asking for their mayo brand.

Text:
R: You need to get Pastor Cho's mayo for the potato salad - it's the only one Grandma can have.
L: ... Trader Joe's mayo?
R: yes.

Recipe Substitution

 enable images please

Happy Birthday Eve to my niece!
Oh my child, this is a lesson we all need to learn. There are some subs that work, and many more that don't. But I do like that you were trying to come up with a solution. If you want the recipe we use, it's on Tasty.co. Just three ingredients, so you really need each ingredient. For humor, I recently saw a post where a lady talked about how people had changed her recipe then complained that the recipe didn't work and her response was, you didn't make my recipe.

Text:
R: Can we make brigadeiros?
L: No, we need sweetened condensed milk for that.
R: Can we use eggs instead? Or just sugar?
L: Please never comment on recipe blogs.

Pattern Following

enable images please

I feel like this with some cooking recipes as well. I think once you're familiar enough with a skill, you can tweak as you go rather than making the whole thing and trying out changes on the second go-around.
NOTE: if you do this and it doesn't work out, absolutely do not complain in the comments on said recipe/pattern. Your failure was most likely due to your changes. Follow the directions exactly if you want to see if a pattern/recipe works.

Title: Crochet
M: Have you done that pattern before?
L: Nope.
M: So you're going to follow it, right?
L: Also no.

Recipe Options

Happy Birthday to my Robin! She likes looking at recipe videos on my phone and deciding if we can make it or not. The latest one we made is dandelion flatbread and it was quite tasty! The recipe in this comic was some fluffy dessert with all sorts of dairy in it - I have finally come to realize that with lactose intolerance, if I want to make a recipe then I only want to be subbing out one, max two ingredients for non-dairy versions. Otherwise, brace for failure.

R: We can make that!
L: We cannot because that is all dairy, and Mom can't eat lactose.
R: We can make it, and I'll eat it.

Inconsistent Bread Pudding

 please enable images

This is the same person that looked for the recipe for Soup du Jour. And now I have that song in my head - "Soup du jour, hot hors d'oeuvres, why we only live to serve!"

Explanation: Bread pudding is made using the day-old pastries, so the ingredients change based on what was leftover the day before. Sometimes it has raisins, sometimes it has nuts, it all depends on what was tossed together. Sometimes they don't have it on the menu because there weren't enough leftovers! Much like soup du jour, it depends on the day.

Text:
A: What do you think of this bakery?
B: They don't have a consistent bread pudding recipe.

Soup Du Jour

 enable images!

I thought this up in a restaurant when I saw it on the menu. I'm thinking this comic wouldn't work translated into French because they'd just be like, why would you think the soup of the day is a set recipe?? It's probably whatever is cheapest or about to go bad thrown together, but maybe that's a pessimistic view on the restaurant industry.

Explanation: Soup du jour just means "soup of the day" and it's on many menus because places don't want to reprint the menu daily or however often they change which soup they're offering.

Text:
A: Soup Du Jour is the weirdest soup, like what even is the recipe??? I've had it made so many totally different ways!!!
B: *face palm*
