M: So, to which place would you like to go?
L: I'm fine with either as long as you pick the one I want.

Another Tall Order
Explanation: A tall order is a complicated or difficult thing. A giraffe is tall. Giving the giraffe toy to my son is not difficult, but it is pun-worthy (as most things are).
Text:
O: I want the giraffe!
L: That's a tall order.
O: *confusion*

Tall Order Cook
I would love for this to happen in real life. You would probably lose your job but you would gain the admiration of all those in line.
Explanation: A short-order cook has been explained in a previous comic (look back if you need to). A tall order is when something is going to be difficult or hard to accomplish. I do not want to be a tall-order cook.
Text:
P: I want *super complicated order*
S: We're gonna need the tall-order cook.

Not Short Order Cook
This may have been inspired by a sign about being "short staffed" and someone complaining that they should hire taller people.
Explanation: A "short-order cook" is not referring to their size, it's referring to the time it takes to make meals (they make things that are quick like sandwiches or eggs apparently).
Text:
A: Are you a short-order cook?
B: I'm a slightly-above-average-order cook.

Egg Ordering
I look up how I want my eggs and the knowledge will. not. stay. I know scrambled is often ok, but what I really want is (let me look it up) eggs over medium. With no crispy wispy edges. It shouldn't be that hard to remember but when the server asks how I want my eggs, my mind goes blank and I'm like "uuuuuuuhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm scrambled."
Text:
L: I know how I like my eggs, but I don't know how to say how I like my eggs.
M: Tis a struggle.

Pork Fried Rice Pudding
Happy Birthday to my Mom!
I believe the rices were Afghani, India, and Chinese. We had a bit of takeout that week, and that's not always easier than home cooking when you have toddlers. I did not end up combining them - I did not see a version where that could end well. As a side note, I had to look up if "pork fried" had a hyphen in it and it does not so now you know! Also I had to look up if that's a hyphen or a dash. So much research!
Text:
L2: I have 3 kinds of leftover rice in my fridge.
L1: Make rice pudding!
L2: ... Pork fried rice pudding?

Soup Du Jour
I thought this up in a restaurant when I saw it on the menu. I'm thinking this comic wouldn't work translated into French because they'd just be like, why would you think the soup of the day is a set recipe?? It's probably whatever is cheapest or about to go bad thrown together, but maybe that's a pessimistic view on the restaurant industry.
Explanation: Soup du jour just means "soup of the day" and it's on many menus because places don't want to reprint the menu daily or however often they change which soup they're offering.
Text:
A: Soup Du Jour is the weirdest soup, like what even is the recipe??? I've had it made so many totally different ways!!!
B: *face palm*

Day Mixup
How convenient that this is posting on a Tuesday :) The restaurant was actually closed on Sundays - it's a local German place that has really good everything but especially schnitzel.
Text:
L: Ready to head out for dinner?
M: Oh, first we should check that they're open on Mondays.
L: Irrelevant since it's Tuesday, but go ahead.
L2: *vibing*

Ode to Rogganart
If I try, I'm sure I could make a haiku about their amazing pastries, but at this time I've just made a quick little poem. Roggenart is an excellent European-style bakery and bistro that's nearby. We like to go there for breakfast and then go to a park (when the weather is nice) to enjoy our babkas and brioches and danishes or whatever has struck our fancy that morning. Everything there is super tasty and the staff is really nice. They have indoor seating and outdoor covered seating, which is nice on not-so-nice days when the park isn't a great option. To be fair, I also like American donuts, specifically the fresh kind from local small shops like the Donut Shack or down at the beach Duck Donuts or Sandy Pony, but there is just something super special about freshly baked buttery, fruity, chocolatey pastries.

Al Dente Chicken
This one time, Mark and I were out for dinner and I ordered steak and he ordered chicken and the waiter asked me how I wanted my steak done so I told him, but then he asked Mark how he wanted his chicken done and Mark was not prepared to answer. I think he said 'all the way?' but I think at that point the waiter realized his mistake and probably cringed for the rest of the night. I don't even want to know what al dente chicken would be - apparently it means 'firm to the bite' which would probably mean very overcooked chicken, or possibly burnt? You don't want harden chicken.
Text:
W: How do you like your chicken cooked?
M: Al dente?

Beef Options
Be sure to specify how you want your beef when you eat out for New Years. Do people go out for New Years? Like to a restaurant? I have always been at a family or church party, and there are games and pizza involved, but no restaurants (other than the pizza place to pick up or deliver the pizza).
I think the waiter should be more specific - beef solid could be a roast or steak or tartare (which is actually kinda squishy so maybe not a solid) or many other options.
Text:
W: Would you like beef soup or beef solid?
P: *uncertain*

Duck-Fil-A
My brother had this idea so I drew it out. It would be all duck on the menu, with the deer as spokes-animals advertising to Eat More Duck. I'm not sure how the price of duck compares to the price of chicken in the deep woods, but maybe they're close?
Text:
Deer holding sign: EAT MOR DUK
Subtext: Duck-Fil-A, coming to a backwoods near you!
