Deer and Antelope Playing

 enable images!

♪♩ "Home, home on the range - where the deer and the antelope play" ♪♩

I still think they are playing together, that's just how things are out west. Everything is peaceful and the plains are wide open and there's tall grain swaying in the breeze. We did see quite a few deer and a few little antelopes, but they were chilling in separate groups. There were also many much buffalo. But I can misremember and say they were all playing together. And the prairie dogs were in on it, too. Multi-species game play going on.

Text:
M: Look, antelope!
L: Are they playing with the deer?
M: No, but in the song -
L: I still feel misled.

Deer Management

 enable images

The conversation in this comic happened in January, which apparently is when our local park management, um, manages the herd. I like my mental picture of the deer wearing neckties and staring (deer in the headlights, ha) at the park ranger sitting behind his desk in the woods as he calls each of them up to his desk and asks for five-year plans. Did a quick search and the average deer lifespan in the wild is three years, so that's just rude to ask for a five-year plan. I thought about having the guy in the comic holding a rifle of some sort, but wasn't sure it would look right so I left it out.

Ha, I just thought of changing the guy in this comic to be a park ranger so he'd be holding a shotgun, saying the same thing as above, but the lady would say "Are you park rangers etc..." and that might be funnier since he's clearly not going to do that.

B: There's going to be some deer management in the parks nearby next week.
A: Are the park rangers putting neckties on the deer and asking for five-year plans?
B: ... Sure.

Dasher Approaching

Mark says "no, I actually do NOT know Dasher or Dancer or any of them"

A Christmas reference in June? Well, we are getting Door Dash every once in a while (especially when Lucy was first born because neither she nor I were up to going out and about) and this conversation happened (the person who delivers the food for Door Dash is called a Dasher). I want to abbreviate Door Dash to DD but to me that means Dunkin Donuts so I keep spelling it out to be clear. Can you name all the reindeer? I think it would be funny if someone started up a Door Dash knock-off and called it Door Dancer/Prancer/Vixen but actually that doesn't sound like a food delivery service so maybe don't go down that track. Also it'd need to be in a different form (Dash vs Dasher i.e. Door Prance? Dance?). I think they picked the right one for Door Dash. I guess Door Comet/Cupid/Donner/Blitzen could work but it wouldn't be clear what the point of the service was. But all that aside, it is very convenient to get food delivered when you have a newborn but are wanting something specific that you don't want to make. Like Middle Eastern Kebabs (from Maiwan Kebab) or Japanese Ramen (from Akira Ramen).

M: Dasher is on his way.
L: What about Prancer?

Animal Costumes

Deer to fox: You cannot make fun of my Bambi costume when you are dressed as Zorro

I drew this after Halloween last year AND stored it in the proper folder AND remembered to check said folder before the holiday passed by again! I feel like I need a sticker or something. Maybe a sticker to remind me to check my holiday folders when a holiday is approaching. The deer's costume would be the spots since adults don't have those but maybe judging from the size it's a little fawn so therefore he did nothing for his costume, and I tried drawing the classic Zorro hat on the fox but it just didn't look right so I left it off. Also totally forgot about the rapier but I'm not sure how I would have worked that in anyway.

FYI "zorro" is Spanish for "fox". I feel like everyone should know Bambi and Zorro but if you don't, please click the links and learn about them.

Forest Church

How goes the forest church? So many deer saints.
It must be an important church if it has a cardinal! I don't actually know how the Catholic church hierarchy works (I'm not Catholic) but I'm pretty sure each church doesn't get a cardinal. But if your church is in the forest, who knows how many cardinals you would have. Now I'm thinking about the Three Musketeers - I'm pretty sure there was a cardinal involved. Yep, Cardinal Richelieu

Big Bucks

I forget where I heard the phrase 'big bucks' that sparked this comic, but I think it has always brought a deer image to my mind. Now I want to find the origin of the phrase. So bucks are slang for dollars, which is kinda common knowledge, but apparently that could be due to people trading deer skins for goods, which made them a type of money. So the big bucks are worth more, since that's how commodities work. So that makes sense I think.

A: The biggest deer come from your forest.
B: Yeah, I raise the big bucks.

Deer False Witness

Also wouldn't trust this deer. Also it's good to take the Bible in context but maybe these will help people think about what bearing false witness really means? I think something that isn't talked about much is how you can bear false witness against yourself, when you tell yourself lies like "this is impossible" or "I have no worth" - remember that Philippians 4:8 starts with truth when it's talking about what you should think about.

Text:
Deer: The guilty guy didn't do it!
M: The 9th Commandment is about a Bear False Witness, not a Deer False Witness!

Duck-Fil-A

My brother had this idea so I drew it out. It would be all duck on the menu, with the deer as spokes-animals advertising to Eat More Duck. I'm not sure how the price of duck compares to the price of chicken in the deep woods, but maybe they're close?
