Pickle Burger

 

The pickle burger, drawn by my preschooler for my toddler.

It's interesting what my kiddo thinks she can or can't draw. I'm trying to encourage her and explain how objects can be drawn using simple objects, like a car is a square with circles for wheels or a spider is a circle with eight sticks for legs. Also, that's an aqua-mat, which is a surface they can draw on with water and it evaporates to clean itself off and be used again. Pretty nifty.

Sketchy Area

I don't recall what prompted this comic. I am curious why sketchy means what it does (undesirable, not the best area). Is it because a sketch is your first pass at creating a piece of art and therefore rather rough and unfinished? I could see that being the meaning. Per Merriam Webster, that is the reason.

My last workplace was on the edge of Baltimore, and I many times wanted an option in Google Maps for 'avoid sketchy areas' because wow, there are places I want to avoid around there. I'm not sure how they could do that in a PC way though - what would the factors be?

Boundless Art

So I did a painting recently of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and it's that phrase surrounded by stars and diamonds on a background of a star-filled sky. (Official artwork for that song is super trippy.) To do the background, I painted my canvas dark blue then flicked the canvas with white paint - it turned out pretty nice. I might have added some dots as well to balance things out - I do that sometimes with flicked paints. But after flicking, I looked at my black office chair and... there was some stars over there. But it's ok - it came out fine (both the painting and the chair cleaning).

Food Color Transfer

 

I made a bunch of meals to throw in the freezer a week or two before Lucy's due date (or rather harvest date because she was a C-section) and I am very grateful I had the forethought to do that because yeah, fussy baby makes meal prep difficult. This comic was inspired by those meals, which include all sorts of meat and veggies because I was trying to have a nice assortment so there's beef, chicken, and seafood. I got the recipes from a QR code in a Better Homes & Gardens magazine which led to a list of like forty make-ahead meals. I would post the link but I can't find it anymore - I have a list of the recipes that I chose from the article but that'd be tedious to post here. So just know there are many meals you can make ahead and freeze (in portion sizes so for us it's just two and that defrosts fairly quickly). 

Speaking of freezers, tomorrow is FRIDGE DAY!!! The annual reminder of that time my mom's fridge was delivered and there was chaos.
